Riverside Courtyards, Chester University

Turning un-used forgotten spaces into delightful assets with fantastic facilities at the heart of the campus.

These two buildings were constructed, within a very limited time-scale and with restricted access, in the light-wells of the University’s Riverside building. The Refectory extension more than doubles the existing seating capacity and provides additional external dining in a small courtyard. The second building is a dedicated seminar room for teaching music. The zinc clad pods are shaped to maximise light penetration and views into the courtyards from adjoining spaces and to retain small but usable external spaces.
