Thistle Hotels / Clermont Leisure

From 2005 to 2009 we participated directly with the CEO and Board of Clermont Leisure / Thistle Guoman Hotels for the proposed re-branding, re-structuring and redevelopment of 42 hotels including the integration of 16 hotel casinos. Seven of these were in London including  four Thistle Hotels “Marble Arch”, “Bloomsbury”, “Kensington
Park and Kensington Palace” and “Hyde Park”.

Working within this existing 4 star listed 692 bedroom hotel Brock Carmichael obtained Planning Approval and Listed Building Consent for the reorder of the first floor to create new restaurants, bar lounges, a health spa and the ‘Deco Club’, a residents’/ private members casino. The fit-out works were across 28,500 ft² with an approximate contract value of £8.6m.

Westminster Council Approval December 2006

Working within this listed 4 star 138 bedroom hotel. Brock Carmichael obtained Planning Approval and Listed Building Consent for the reorder of the ground floor to create a new restaurant, bar lounge and spa. In addition the basement was to be converted to house ‘Silks,’ a residents’/private members casino.
The fit-out works were across 19,100 ft² with an approximate contract value of £4.1m.

Camden Council Approval March 2007

In 2008 Brock Carmichael conducted a series fo detailed studies and appraisals for the redevelopment / upgrade of these two adjacent 4 star adjacent hotels. Design options included combining the two hotels to create a superior 600 bedroom hotel with a new entrance reception, bar lounges, restaurants, conference, spa and residents / private members casino.
However following detailed analysis, the ultimate conclusion of the exercise was the recommendation to sell the existing Kensington Palace Hotel for residential development, this would then fund the phased upgrade to Kensington Park Hotel.
