This project involved the restoration, re-modelling and extension of the Grade II Arts and Craft Centre in Bury to provide a new museum and headquarters for the Royal Regiment of Lancashire Fusiliers.
Detail
The final scheme incorporated a new carefully designed contemporary extension, whilst also remodelling an original unfinished/poor quality facade (intended within the original Victorian design to be the point of expansion/extension). Overall the scheme provides exhibition space for a permanent collection of Regimental artefacts, temporary and flexible gallery space, a conservation workshop, multi-purpose rooms and a shop to generate an income stream as well as an administrative HQ for the Regiment.
The scheme was part funded by almost £1.9M of Heritage Lottery Funding with the Regiment providing the remaining £1.25M.
