Jane Harrad-Roberts Head of Marketing

FCIM, BSc(Hons)

An engineering graduate with Pilkington, then into marketing with structured cabling, across planning application approvals with Chester’s Storyhouse, airfields and urban developments, Jane has enjoyed a varied career in the built environment over 35 years. This includes marketing support for housing associations Sanctuary (2005 to 2009) and Johnnie Johnson (2015-2017) and for restoration architects Donald Insall Associates (2012 to 2016). She was asked to put together the first press office for Brock Carmichael (in English and Mandarin) and provide back up for Michael’s visit to China in 2013, finally arriving to support the practice’s plans for growth, in January 2017.

Favourite building in Liverpool:

Philharmonic Dining Rooms, firstly, it’s a pub, secondly it was designed by School of Architecture students and thirdly because of the attention to detail including the musically themed decorations, rich materials used, mullions, architraves, stepped gables, turrets with domes and balcony. Everyone should visit the gentleman’s.

Favourite building in the World:

Pompidou Centre, Paris, Love it or hate it, the centre was one of the first buildings to reach the public consciousness worldwide and interested me enough to visit it in my teens. It has since revitalised the neighbouring Marais district and continues to draw seven million visitors a year. Cross border cooperation from Italian architect Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers in the UK, together with Arup’s construction skills ensured the project didn’t detract from housing Europe’s largest collection of modern art. This ‘inside out’ building led to new achievements in construction technology, prefabrication, space flexibility, movement and light.
