Joshua Woods Architectural Assistant Part II
Josh joined Brock Carmichael some 10 years ago, after graduating from Newcastle University, for his Part 1 year of professional experience. He enjoyed his time in Liverpool so much, he applied to and later completed his Part 2 at the University of Liverpool, during which time he was shortlisted for the Presidents Medals and appeared on James May’s Toy Stories, having designed the concept for a bridge made entirely from Meccano. He has remained at Brock Carmichael ever since. Outside of the practice, he is interested in cycling, reading and travel.
Josh’s Favourite building in Liverpool:
Peter Ellis’ Oriel Chambers – I just can’t ignore a tasty oriel window detail, and this building has 56 of them.
His favourite building in the World:
Bertrand Goldberg’s Marina City Towers, Chicago – There are many buildings in the world where repetitive brutalist gestures in concrete jar. Here, they are beautiful because they exist as an undiluted expression of the building’s use.
A selection of his recent project experience:
- Bishop Grosseteste University Library
- Conway Centre
