Favourite Building in the world:
Oscar Neimeyer’s, Niterói Contemporary Art Museum in Rio is probably his most iconic work . His use of form and development of a relationship with the site make him my favourite architect. The winding ramp to the entrance creates drama out of the ordinary, whilst the siting of it’s futuristic form – perched on top of a cliff overlooking Sugar loaf mountain etc. creates an iconic image.
Favourite Building in Liverpool:
The Welsh Presbyterian Church in Toxteth. Growing up, I would pass by this derelict church every time I came into the city centre and think it was a shame that such a building was left to dereliction. It was one of the buildings that ended up inspiring me to study Architecture.
A special mention to the new Everyman however, as the way it manages to give a sense of familiarity to those who visited the old theatre, whilst being new and much improved, provides a great precedent to how rebuilds should be done.
